Soft Insulation
Soft Insulation for auto, aircraft, and industrial applications, both thermal and acoustic designs, utilize a number of low cost fibers and materials with cost cutting in mind. Fibers currently used include reclaimed cotton fibers, jute backed product, foam, nonwoven polyester, as well as new material blends in development.
When higher performance is required in thermal and acoustic properties, longer life cycles, obtaining a self extinguishing fire classification, along with chemical and corrosion resistance, “reclaimed carbon fibers” at discounted pricing may become the option to consider. Reclaimed carbon fibers, in some percentage blend with existing fiber choices allow the incorporation of the high tech fiber performance characteristics with a cost/value basis that becomes very attractive. Soft insulation applications for vehicles include the firewall, floor, wheel wells, tunnel, doors, trunk, trunk lid, quarter panels, roof and hood.
Rigid Board Insulation for High Temp Industrial Furnaces
With a discounted price for CFR’s reclaimed carbon fiber, the application to making of rigid insulation board for high temp furnaces becomes attractive. It is a known factor this fiber is excellent for the making of an airlay nonwoven mat material (at the 60-62% carbon content fiber) for the carbonizing it to the grade required for the furnace temperature application. The choice of fiber length offered by CFR sets up the most efficient processing of the airlay, nonwoven making of the mat materials to the dimensions required.
